Simon Dyson aiming to go fourth in KLM Open bid
SIMON DYSON is bidding to join a select group at this week’s KLM Open in the Netherlands.
A victory for the York-born golf ace would make him only the sixth player to win the same European Tour regular event four times.
The 35-year-old won the tournament the last time it was staged at the Kennemer Golf and Country Club in 2009 having earlier claimed glory at the course in 2006.
Two years ago, he triumphed again at Hilversumsche.
Succeeded as champion last year by Sweden’s Peter Hanson, who is not defending his title because of a back injury, Dyson tees off from the first at 1.15pm today with the big hitting Spaniard Alvaro Quiros and the Dane Thorbjorn Olesen.
Having got over a bout of poor form which blighted his results over the first half of the year, Dyson has stormed up the statistics of those taking part in the event in driving accuracy (20th) and greens in regulation (12th).
Lying 68th in the order of merit, a strong display would not only boost Dyson’s world ranking but would also enhance his chances of playing in the $8.5 million end of season Race To Dubai championship.
