Double delight for Malton in junior golf league
3:23pm Wednesday 11th September 2013 in Sport
MALTON & Norton’s junior section have managed to do the double in the York Union.
Just a week after Malton won the York Union Cup, the juniors were confirmed as winners of the York Union Junior League for the second year running, taking the title by a solitary point from Easingwold GC.
Meanwhile, as the summer draws to a close, the super weather has left the course in top-notch condition. Jean Mackenzie made the most of these conditions when continuing her fine run of form by winning the Alison Nicholas Cup with a nett 69 on countback from Jean Maloney and Lorna Mastaglio.
The low scores kept coming in the Ladies’ Medal with Carol Wilson and Edna Drabble both shooting nett 69 to win their respective divisions. Tony Bradley fired a hole in one at the par-three 13th hole.
J James followed up a very impressive 66 to win the midweek medal with an even more impressive 65 playing off his lower handicap to win the monthly medal.
These scores were also the lowest gross in both competitions.
Ben Leach went low with a 62 to take division two in the midweek medal with Harry Felgate and Dave Sawdon winning their respective divisions in the monthly medal.
Meanwhile, event number seven in the RT Society’s 2013 campaign, the final event of the regular season, at Hornsea Golf Club proved a day for the underdogs.
Stephen Linsley, having missed four straight society events, won on 36 points, thanks to a slightly better gross score than Jimmy Baxter. Third was the ever-improving Andy Philips with 34 points.
Phil Dodsworth claimed his first ‘longest drive’ honour and Simon Brookshaw took ‘nearest pin’.
The major prize of the day, however, went to Chris Seager, who claimed the season victory. Phil Dodsworth finished second, with Oliver Salisbury third.
The society’s next event is the RT Masters at Cherry Burton GC next month.
