Angling: Geoff Selby honoured by special match
3:00pm Wednesday 11th September 2013 in Sport
Ryedale Junior Angling Club are temporarily re-forming to hold a charity match in memory of long-serving volunteer Geoff Selby, who died recently.
Selby helped to teach more than 300 young anglers in the time he gave to the club. Former club members and volunteers can now get together to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support at the match on Sunday, September 22. Mike Fletcher, of Pool Bridge Farm, near York, has offered use of his 28-peg pond for free, and York Tackle has donated prizes. A club statement said: “Geoff was an inspirational man who had a host of knowledge that he willingly shared in a bid to help the club to succeed. Geoff sadly died of terminal cancer and the Macmillan Cancer Support team where there for him and his family towards the end of Geoff’s life.
“We are hoping anyone who spent time with Ryedale Junior Angling Club will raise their rod in a bid to thank Macmillan Cancer Support for the help that was offered to the Selby family.”
Anyone wanting to join in or make a donation can phone John Craft on 07974 834687.
