Angling: Paul Thompson wins final round of summer series

Fishing on a much-improved River Aire at Beal, he employed the 11-metre pole with bronze maggot to put together a catch of roach for a grand total of 16lb 8oz.
Ken Dalton weighed in with 15lb 4oz of pole-caught roach to secure second place on the day and in the league.
Peg 10 on the Horseshoe at Poppleton Fishery was the red-hot peg that everyone wanted to draw last week.
Howard Pulford was the lucky recipient on Tuesday, winning G B Angling Club’s match off it with a whopping 131lb 2oz.
Fishing across to the island with the 13-metre pole and banded pellet, he attracted carp to the 4lb mark.
It was Paul Bilton’s turn on Wednesday, this time putting 88lb on the scales to win the York Midweek match. Alternating between the method feeder with pellet and the pole with paste, he took an all-carp catch.
Ken Herbert led the way in Monday’s Contemptibles match at Don’s pond, putting together 12lb 10oz of small carp and skimmers with pole and worm tactics from peg five. Tony Mellor was second with 9lb 6oz.
Norton’s Phil Roberts was to the fore in Friday’s Westland’s AC match, recording a winning 34lb from peg 28 on the Dog Bone Lake.
Alternating between the four and 11-metre pole lines with paste for bait, he attracted the attention of F1 carp to the 2lb mark.
