Yorkshire seize control on day one of crucial LV= County Championship clash with Sussex
Yorkshire’s bowlers took their time to find the right length and line to bowl in their vital LV= County Championship division one match against Sussex at Hove but Andrew Gale’s men ended the session well on top with the home side on 117-5 after 28 overs.
Battling against the slope at the County Ground and having to deal with a brisk but erratic wind, the Tykes’ seamers allowed Sussex to reach 58-1 after the 14.3 overs, the one wicket to fall being claimed by the impressive Jack Brooks, who had Luke Wells caught by Adam Lyth at second slip for ten.
Then Liam Plunkett produced a superb delivery with lift and movement to have Chris Nash taken at the wicket by York's Jonny Bairstow for 35 and the same bowler induced Michael Yardy to chop the ball on to his stumps when the former Sussex captain had made 29.
Four balls later Ed Joyce was bowled behind his legs by Ryan Sidebottom for three and the session ended with Yorkshire well in charge, especially after Kane Williamson had bowled Rory Hamilton-Brown for 20.
