Pickering Town boss Reid looking forward to home comforts

PICKERING Town manager Jimmy Reid has targeted six points this week as the Pikes’ compete in their last two away games for a month.
The Northern Counties East League Premier Division side are yet to play a home game this season and Reid, pictured, is confident a good run of performances are on the way.
“It would be nice to get two to three goals, a clean sheet and to climb up the table,” he said.
Following the next two away games, the Pikes will have four home games in September, fixtures which the Town boss hopes will bring plenty of points.
“It’s going to be nice to get back on the Pickering pitch. We are looking forward to playing at home and not having so many long trips,” said Reid.
“We had a good home run last season and we hope to do the same this time round.”
The Pikes were due to play at Lincoln Moorlands last night and will finish their busy away schedule on Saturday against Long Eaton United, who are currently undefeated at home. Pickering picked up another point away from home at the weekend as they drew 1-1 with Barnsley-based Athersley Recreation in the first meeting between the two sides.
After Liam Shepherd and Tom Reid went close, the home side took the lead in the 19th minute with a strike from Jamie Sutton.
But Pickering responded almost instantly as from the re-start Tom Adams burst through into the penalty area only to be upended by Simon Chadburn. Adams levelled with a well-struck penalty beyond the goalkeeper’s right-hand.
Pikes ’keeper Aaron Reid made two fine saves to thwart Ryan White and Kyle Cook before the visitors were then denied a second penalty when goalkeeper Shirt tripped Joe Danby.
However, it was Danby who was shown a yellow card for diving.
Five minutes before half-time Shirt was in more orthodox action with saves to prevent Reid and Joel Ramm putting the Pikes ahead.
The second-half was more even resulting in a midfield stalemate, though Pickering almost sealed all three points only for a Baxter shot to rebound off the crossbar.
Boss Reid said: “The game was hit and miss. There were a few chances and I think we edged it,”
The draw leaves the Pikes sitting middle of the Northern Counties East League Premier Division having won one and lost one of their four League games this season.
Pickering are still without last year’s top scorer Liam Salt who had a scan on his knee yesterday.
Added Reid: “Salt scored 36 goals last season which is a big loss to the team. At the moment, we aren’t scoring enough.”
Pickering (v Athersley Recreation): Reid A, Reid T, Gowan, Readman, Sturdy, Ramm, Patterson, Adams (Taylor 57), Baxter (Dalton 75), Danby, Shepherd (Hawkes 75). Sub, not used: Heads.
