3:00pm Wednesday 4th September 2013 in Sport
Colin McNeil led the way in GB Angling Club’s Tuesday match on the High Bank at Raker Lakes, recording a winning 91lb 10oz. Alternating between the ten metre pole line and the near side margin with paste for bait at peg ten, he attracted carp to the four pound mark plus eight smaller skimmers.
The following day saw McNeil winning the York Midweek match at the same fishery, but this time on the Horseshoe Lake with 89lb 8oz. Fishing from peg six with the 13 metre pole and paste he took mainly carp to the six pound mark.
McNeil was back in action on Friday, leaving Plaxtons AC members trailing in his wake as he put on another polished display of pole and paste fishing at peg 12 on the main lake at Lambwath Fishery to tempt a level 89lb of carp to the net.
Martin Russell won the final round of Scarborough Match Group’s summer league with a catch of 60lb 9oz from peg 12 on the Little Tench Lake at Westland’s Fishery. In doing so, he secured the league trophy with 72 points, four points clear of runner-up Gary Milne.
Plans for next year’s series are well advanced and will consist of a series of 12 fortnightly matches on various local commercial fisheries. Entry to the league is £72, which covers all pegging fees, plus £12 pools per match.
