Angling: Darren Wallis wins new Rennison trophy
10:21am Friday 30th August 2013 in Sport
THE inaugural Rennison Shield match at the Railway Pond in York was won by Darren Wallis.
Wallis finished almost 10lb ahead of the 20-strong field to claim the trophy, which was introduced as a tribute to head bailiff Colin Rennison who is retiring after 22 years in the role.
A haul of 18lb 2oz gave Wallis first prize at the Dringhouses venue, with Ste Hart second with 8lb 4oz, and Cameron Glover third with 4lb 2oz.
Fourth place was filled by Paul Coxon, who scaled 3lb 12oz, while Mikey Lombourne took fifth with 2lb 6oz.
Brian Bevan, one of the pond’s bailiff’s, said: “Everyone had a great day and enjoyed themselves – none more than Colin.
“He was over the moon with everyone’s efforts to make the day special.”
Next year’s Rennison Shield will be held on Saturday, August 23.
