Football: 4-1 home defeat for Terrington Glory
3:19pm Thursday 29th August 2013 in Sport
TERRINGTON Glory kicked off their York Minster Engineering Football League premier division campaign in disappointing fashion with a 4-1 home defeat to Dringhouses.
The York side led 2-0 at the interval and added a third goal after the restart. Johnny Brown grabbed a consolation for Terrington before a fourth for the visitors.
Terrington had also lost their first game of term in midweek, falling by the same 4-1 scoreline to Dunnington in the league’s Senior Cup.
Stuart Lee put reigning champions Dunnington into the lead before Chris Leedham equalised. Goals from Jimmy Willmoth, Olly Newby and Kieran O’Brien settled the tie.
Old Malton St Mary’s good start to the campaign continued with victories in league and cup and a nine-goal haul to boot.
On Saturday, they continued Easingwold’s early-season misery with a 6-1 premier division victory at Bull Hill.
Player-boss Darren Dunning hit a brace for the away side, with Simon Cooke, Callum Scott, Scott Preston and Neil Wilford also on the scoresheet. Easingwold’s reply came from George Kirk.
St Mary’s also enjoyed derby joy in midweek, beating division one outfit Malton & Norton 3-1 in the Senior Cup.
Callum Scott (2) and Dunning, again, hit the target, with Matthew Reeves replying. M&N’s league season begins on September 7.
Stamford Bridge host Sporting Knavesmire in the Junior Cup tonight (Wednesday), kick off 6.15pm, while league newcomers Kirkbymoorside make their debut in the competition on Saturday, away to Haxby United.
l Kirkbymoorside are planning a special testimonial day on Sunday for recently retired secretary Michael Hodgson, who stood down in May after 40 years in the post. Hodgson also played for the club.
There will be a game between players old and new, a bar and barbecue, all starting at 1pm. All players past and present as well as supporters are welcome.
