Winning start for Riccall United as York RI slip up
9:12am Monday 26th August 2013 in Sport
RI, who were missing many of the side that conquered champions Dunnington the previous week, took the lead early on through Adam Chaplin.
However, Riccall soon hit top gear with goals from Ryan Whitlam, Chris Coxon, Tom Littlewood and Michael Braithwaite.
Dringhouses were also victorious on their travels with a 4-1 success at Terrington Glory. ’Houses led 2-0 at the interval and added a third after the restart. Johnny Brown then grabbed a consolation for Terrington before a fourth for the visitors.
Following a goalless first half, Copmanthorpe opened the scoring at St Clement’s in the 55th minute with a penalty from goalkeeper Ben Sheehan.
However, the Saints came back to record a shock win as Josh Johnson levelled the scores and went on to bag the second ten minutes later.
Chris Dyson was the star of the show, hitting four goals, as Huntington dealt out a 6-1 beating to hosts Aviva. The striker bagged two in the first seven minutes and completed his hat-trick just after half-time. Mathieu Testevide pulled one back for Aviva, but Gary Mitchinson and Chris Johnson settled the game in Rovers’ favour before Dyson added his fourth.
Easingwold’s misery continued as Old Malton St Mary’s scored a 6-1 victory at Bull Hill. Darren Dunning hit a brace for the away side, with Simon Cooke, Callum Scott, Scott Preston and Neil Wilford also on the score sheet. Easingwold’s reply came from George Kirk.
