Scarborough Beckett Cricket League: Maximum hauls for top teams
2:51pm Wednesday 14th August 2013 in Sport
Thornton-le-Dale remain at the top of the Readers Scarborough Beckett League division ‘C’ table after being awarded 20 points as opponents Cloughton 2nds failed to raise a team for a third successive week.
Second-placed Ganton did not lose any ground, however, after picking up maximum points at home to Wykeham 2nds.
Ganton were in run-making mode from the start.
Stuart Ward (33) and Joel Sarup (25) added 52 for the second wicket, John Bannister made 32, Greg Mills 56 not out and Mark Snowball 52 not out – his first half-century for the club, after smashing the final three balls of the innings for six to reach that goal. Mills and Snowball put on 90 for the ninth wicket out of a final total of 289-8, Justin Palmer claiming 3-69.
After the break, Richard Creaser (33), Mathew Graves (26) and Ian Thompson (25) helped Wykeham 2nds to 135 at stumps, John Bannister claiming 4-20.
Ravenscar batted all 45 overs for 159-9 at Ebberston II, Ivan Kirk (37), Robin Coulson (26) and Jish Rewcroft (49) the leading run-makers, with Sam Hardie claiming 3-31 for the home team.
Ebberston in reply looked set for a comfortable victory as Alex Machen (82) and Henry Harrison (28) put them in a strong position.
But then Rewcroft (5-58) and Gerald Smith (3-15) took control, bowling out the hosts for 149.
Heslerton 2nds boosted their battle for survival by beating fellow strugglers Seamer 2nds by 31 runs.
Heslerton’s innings closed on 126 thanks to a captain’s knock from John Wharton (44) with Steve Winwood (6-48) and Chris Brame (4-30) taking the bowling honours for Seamer.
Shaun Wood (26) led the reply but good bowling spells from Mark Dring (4-36) and James Duffill (5-19) had the home team back in the pavilion for 95.
