Pool: Bright Steels ‘A’ to face Union ‘A’ in final
2:35pm Wednesday 14th August 2013 in Sport
Steels battled back from behind three times to clinch a final spot with a 4-3 semi-final win over Hyde ‘A’.
Gavin Rice, Darren Pickering and Mick Lightfoot each put Park ahead with individual frame wins but Steels hit back through in-form Ben Myers, Ian Hoggart and the same two players in the first pairs frame.
The deciding frame was very tight with both teams having chances before Karl Reveley held his nerve to sink the black, to the relief of pairs partner Andy Sedman, and the delight of his Steels team.
The second semi-final was more straightforward. Don McFarlane got Malton Cons off to a good start with an excellent pressure clearance, but Wayne Taylor levelled, Richard Flynn dominated a tactical frame to edge Union in front, Jamie Barstow fired an excellent champagne break and Darren Craggs sealed the win. The teams then shared the pairs frames, Union winning 5-2.
The final is this Monday (August 19) at Bright Steels Social Club from 8pm. The men’s and ladies’ individual competitions will also be decided.
The league is to hold its annual general meeting and winter season registration on Monday, September 2, at Bright Steels from 8pm. New teams are welcome. For more info, phone Wayne Taylor on 07879 684285.
