Angling: Paul Thompson’s turn to take series spoils

This time round it was the turn of Paul Thompson, taking the honours on the River Ouse at Linton on Sunday with 85 pole-and-maggot-caught roach for a grand total of 8lb.
Club stalwart Ken Dalton sat it out on the ground bait feeder and tempted a 1lb 8oz skimmer plus quality roach to secure second place with 7lb 8oz.
Paul Lightfoot and Dave Woods shared third place with 6lb apiece.
The York midweek anglers had the fish in a feeding frenzy at Forest Lane Fishery, Alne, last Wednesday, where the top six rods alone had over 652lb between them.
George Wisheart led the charge from peg 35, putting a whopping 136lb of pole-and-paste-caught carp and barbel on the scales.
Paul Bilton kept up his good run of form, securing second place with 111lb 1oz. In doing so he relegated Brian Pallister into third with 104lb 14oz.
Young Jake Cappel continues to dominate proceedings at the Black Horse AC, this time showing his rivals a clean pair of heels at Tollerton ponds with a haul of 123lb 10oz.
Fishing from peg two on Kingfisher pond, he extracted carp to the 8lb mark with margin pole and pellet.
Runner-up Gerald Chalk fished pellet on the feeder at peg 18 to tempt 80lb 12oz of carp to the net.
The Contemptibles fished the Dave Mills Memorial Match at Wagtail Park last Monday. Ken Herbert led the way in this one, taking 35lb 5oz of small carp, crucian carp, barbel, tench, rudd and skimmers on the seven-metre pole with worm at peg 10.
John Collier sat close by at peg eight and took second place with 20lb 6oz.
Brian Scott won Malton and Norton AC’s Monday evening match on the River Derwent at Menethorpe with 1lb 12oz of small roach and gudgeon from peg seven out in the grass paddock, leaving Brian Jordan in second at peg five with 1lb 6oz.
