Sheriff Hutton Bridge to host Frank Piercy Twenty20 Cup
11:55am Thursday 8th August 2013 in Sport
SHERIFF Hutton Bridge will host finals day of the Frank Piercy Twenty20 Cup on Sunday, writes Toby Latham.
The annual competition, which involves the second-string sides from clubs in the Hunter’s York & District Senior League, is named after a former Sheriff Hutton Bridge second XI captain.
Frank’s son, Roy Piercy, was one of the founder members of the club when in 1949, aged 11, he and some friends asked the local farmer if they could play cricket on his unused field. It has since been transformed into one of the best grounds in the area.
Some 74 years on, Sheriff Hutton Bridge II will face Sessay II in the first semi-final at 10.15am before Pocklington II meet holders Beverley II or Scarborough II at 1pm.
The final is at 4pm after which Roy Piercy will present a cash prize and the winner’s trophy.
