Sheriff Hutton Bridge II drop off summit
2:46pm Wednesday 7th August 2013 in Sport
Sheriff Hutton Bridge II were knocked off top spot in York & District Senior League division five when they could only draw at promotion rivals Selby II.
SHB’s attack made little impression as Selby progressed to 213-4 after being given a sound start by Ed Townend (62) and Alex Bowden (38) in an opening stand of 99. This was built upon by Neil Darley (36no) and Matt Hoyle (53).
SHB also had a promising start as Steve Crowder made 30 and Toby Latham 62 but a tight spell by Jeff Romans (3-26) removed any chances of a successful run chase as Bridge closed on 158-6.
E Smith hit 73 and Iain Hodson 32no as Londesbrough Park II eased past Stamford Bridge II’s 184 to win by three wickets. There was a half-century by Bridge’s Roddy Vann (55) and L Wilson added 35 but the first-half honours were grabbed by Tom Eagling with 6-30.
Hovingham II’s woes in division six grew as they lost by five wickets to a Copmanthorpe II side chasing promotion at the first attempt.
Hovingham’s Ali Thorpe made 33 and Kev Wilson 40 but Sunny Sharma was in fine form in taking 5-36 as the hosts were pegged to 136-8. Sharma then followed with 31 while Sandeep Bhargava hit his second half-century in making 66 as Cop moved to 137-5.
Mick Bradley claimed for 6-28 as Sheriff Hutton II enjoyed a 10-wicket win over Cawood II to boost their promotion chances in division seven.
Cawood were only able to reach 40-9, presumably with only 10 men, as Vince Coan supported Bradley with 3-11.
