Hovingham’s Steve Mosey makes a big appeal for the wicket of Dringhouses’ Dave Brown but has it turned down
Division three leaders Duncombe Park posted one of the highest totals of the day in the York & District Senior League on Saturday when they made 268-6 against Sheriff Hutton.
However, they were unable to force an outright win when their guests replied with 183-8. Peter Humpleby top-scored with 75 and received valuable assistance from Brian Leckenby (38), Phil Marwood (29) and Peter Kent (45no) as Nick Schofield took 3-62.
Schofield was again in focus when the Castlemen replied as he made 31. James Leckenby claimed 3-31 but Sheriff were able to gain a draw at 183-8 thanks to an unbeaten 37 from David Hull.
Hovingham, like Sheriff Hutton, lost ground on the promotion race as they fell by 34 runs at Dringhouses.
C Storey was an unbeaten 59 as Houses totalled 184-8, S Masey taking 3-30 and D Bowling 3-40.
Hovingham were then all out for 150, R Hudson making 27, R Bowling 29 and P Deverill 39, all in vain as G Wilson claimed 3-34 and a decisive L Chipchase 4-22.
Easingwold had made a seemingly modest 141-9 with Ian Dobson hitting 26 and Alan Robinson 45. H Jackson 3-30 and L Welburn 3-18 appeared to have tipped the scales in Pickering’s favour.
Welburn then hit 62 not out but his fellow batsmen floundered against the attack headed by Harrison, who was supported by 14-year-old Josh Summerscales, who claimed his first senior wickets by taking 2-11 in a seven-over spell which helped dismiss Pickering for 97.
Fifteen-year-old Matty Watson bowled Malton & Old Malton II to a 41-run victory over Drax when he claimed 6-26 to terminate the Selby side’s innings on 98.
Malton had earlier been bowled out for 139 despite enjoying an opening stand of 55. The bulk of their runs were provided by A Raines (33), Tom Audsley (29) and Morgan Fraser (25) while B Worley took 4-43 for Drax.
