HOLDERS Duncombe Park will bid to progress in the York & District Senior League’s twenty-20 tournament, the Readman Cup, on Sunday.

The Helmsley club are one of four hosts in the quarter-final, along with Hull, Welton & Brough, and Thirsk.

Duncombe Park host Copmanthorpe and Civil Service, with the two visiting teams starting at 10.30am. At 1.15pm, Duncombe Park will play the losers of the first game, and the final game, at 4pm, will see Duncombe face the winners of the first game.

A handicap system means that Copmanthorpe will receive a 16 start and Civil Service an eight start when playing against the home team, who have previously appeared in the competition final four times, winning three to boast the best record in the cup’s 11-year history.

Fielding restrictions and a maximum of four overs per bowler apply.

The winning teams at each venue go through to finals day, which is to be hosted by Woodhouse Grange Cricket Club on Sunday, August 4.

The bar at Duncombe Park will be open throughout and there will also be an all-day barbecue.

There is a play area for children and the nearby Helmsley outdoor swimming pool is also now open.
