FORMER Ebberston aces Tom Brough and Tom Bumby played major roles for Forge Valley against their former club in the Readers Scarborough Beckett League premier division.

Opening batsman Brough smashed two sixes and 12 fours in an unbeaten 116, featuring in stands of 97 with Mick Glew for the first wicket and 66 with Dave Morris (38) for the second.

Valley ended on 255-4, which could have been greater but for the match being reduced to 42 overs.

After the break a shellshocked Ebberston collapsed to 43-6 before building some respectability as Mike Horsley crashed 11 fours in his 66 not out, adding 66 with Adrian Turnbull (21) for the seventh wicket.

A final total of 134 illustrated the fine bowling performances of Bumby, who took 5-18 from 11.4 overs, and James Tindall, 5-46 from 15 overs.

Cloughton had little to offer against Flixton 2nds’ Aussie, C Grant, who in 13 overs claimed 6-24 to have the home team taking an early tea on 94. Geoff Hill led the reply with 37 and, despite Mark Bennett claiming 3-30, Flixton eased to victory by seven wickets.

In a match reduced to 40 overs, Kirkbymoorside were put into bat at Staxton and, thanks to Dan Meredith (64), recently transferred from Burley in Wharfedale, Jodie Robson (38) and Aaron Rivis (37), they set a total of 194-9, Andrew Holtby claiming 5-30.

Chris Dove top scored with 22 in reply as Dave Gardner claimed 4-27 and a new recruit from Glaisdale, Stuart Dowson, took 3-33 to roll over the champions by 87 runs.

A rampant Ian Atkinson claimed 8-43 as Brompton dismissed visitors Scalby for 75 before Karl Theobold (36no) and Rob Lockey (20) gained a division ‘A’ victory for the home team by nine wickets.

In a match reduced to 43 overs, Filey ran up 198-9 against Settrington, Will Hunter (25), Phil Dickens (34) and Keiren Geyle (51) their principal scorers while Jon Huntsman (3-68) and Ed Rounthwaite (3-65) proved the visitors’ most potent bowlers.

After the interval, Adam Morley (43) and Eddie Rounthwaite (50) threatened to knock of the total but the innings disintegrated to 173-9 and victory for Filey by 25 runs.

Sewerby 2nds were restricted to 138-7 at Sherburn, Mathew Dandy (32) and James Faulkner (38) proving the seasiders’ leading batsmen as Stu Pickard claimed 5-46.

Craig Sanderson, following last week’s double century, led the reply with 70 as the home team won by seven wickets.

After electing to bat in a game reduced to 40 overs, Snainton looked to get on with things against Seamer, but soon fell to 58-7 when Joe Danby began with a triple wicket maiden.

Snainton ended on 115 all out from 27.2 overs, Danby finishing with 5-20 from 6.2 overs with Sam Park also claiming 3-34. Opener Carl Wilson top scored with 34, before the tail rallied with 27 from Leigh Watson and 18 from James Wilson.

Seamer openers Anthony Jenkinson and Danby took the reply to 92-0 in the 17th over before Jenkinson was bowled by the first legitimate ball of off-spinner Jonathan Maw. Danby saw the task through and finished on 68 not out.

Thornton-le-Dale piled on the pressure at Ebberston 2nds to set up victory in a division ‘C’ match reduced to 33 overs.

After an opening stand of 52, Lewis White (61) and Tim Hunt (81no) added 114 for the second wicket in a total of 192-2. The hosts collapsed to 90 all out to Colin Lockwood (5-18) with only Joe Tyson (31) showing any form with the bat.

Heslerton 2nds gave Aussie Tim Clarke the chance to get his season underway and he did not disappoint crashing four sixes and 15 fours in his 113 against Ravenscar.

Skipper John Wharton (31) and son Jordan (33) chipped in and Tom Milner (42) made a late burst to take the total to 268-6 after the allotted 43 overs.

In reply, Ivan Kirk had to retire hurt on 43, Mathew Smith was brilliantly caught by Mark Dring for 37, and both Jish Rewcroft (25no) and William Warwick (36no) were unbeaten at with the visitors score on 175-4, Phil Coverdale claiming 2-32.

Scalby 2nds had Cloughton 2nds all out for 74, Adrian Hollingsworth 5-28 and Tom Gregory 3-12 creating their problems, before knocking off the runs for the loss of five wickets. Cloughton’s Craig Lyons claimed 3-44.

Wykeham 2nds had a torrid afternoon at home to Staithes 2nds, taking an early tea for 48 despite Dale Corcoran’s unbeaten 21.

Chief destroyers were Stuart Theaker, with 5-16 from 15 overs, and Lee Oliver, with 3-20 from 12. Brad Lewis remained unbeaten as Staithes won by nine wickets.

•Thornton-le-Dale have withdrawn their third team from Derwent Valley League division ‘C’ due to a lack of players. They will continue to run their second team in that division. Teams due to play Thornton 3rds will be awarded a win with 20 points.

Bateman’s brilliance sets up Wykeham win

Craig Bateman hit an unbeaten 115 to set up a 19-run win for Wykeham over Cayton 2nds in division ‘B’ of the Readers Scarborough Beckett League.

Wykeman made 207-5 after their allotted 45 overs, the next highest scorer being Sam Collin (20), Brett Crowe claiming 4-39. Connor Davison (42) and Sam Williams (49) led the reply but Gareth Barnard (4-49) ensured victory for Wykeham.

In a match reduced to 42 overs, Fylingdales were put into bat on a green wicket at Ryedale but, thanks to a seventh-wicket partnership of 94 between Mark Estill (55) and Peter Stentiford (61no), reached a total of 202-8 despite an aggressive spell from Alex Ibbotson (3-55).

Ryedale had a number of players unavailable and some excellent catching from the visitors didn’t help them either.

Dan Hardey topped the run-getters with 32 and Jim Boyes hit 28 but a good spell from debutant spinner Mark Jackson, with 2-45 from 16 overs, and opener Martin Cairns, with 3-22 from 10, ended the innings on 103.
