Darts: Terry Temple books European berth

TERRY Temple beat former two-time world champion Ted ‘The Count’ Hankey on his way to securing a place in the next European Tour event in Germany.

The Whitwell-on-the-Hill ace beat Hankey 6-5 and then dispatched ex-World Masters quarter-finalist Steve West 6-1 to make the 64-strong field for the tournament which will be held in Sindelfingen from March 30 to April 1.

Temple has been drawn against 2005 UK Open runner-up Mark Walsh in the first round. A run to the last 16 of the third UK Open qualifier in Wigan also followed for Temple, who defeated Joe Cullen (6-4), Charl Pietersen (6-4) and Dave Place (6-5) before being edged out 6-5 by 1994, 2003 and 2008 world champion John Part.

In the next day’s qualifier, Temple fell at the first hurdle to Stephen Hardy (6-5).
