Scarborough & District Football League round-up

West Pier narrowed the gap to Scarborough & District League first division leaders Filey Town to two points by beating Hunmanby United 5-0.

Jamie Bradshaw hit a hat-trick, with Martin Cooper and Gary Thomas also scoring, all the goals coming in the last half hour.

Whitby Fishermen beat Westover Wasps 3-2. Curtis Rose and Mark Swales, the former Pickering Town striker, traded penalties and Jordan Purvis and Daz Varley traded goals, before a late Neil Hart strike decided matters.

Second division leaders Snainton crashed 3-0 at Flixton to open up the promotion race. The Flixton goals were scored by Ian Laing, Keith Skelton and Danny Hague.

Scalby beat Rillington Athletic 3-2 in a game of two halves.

Rillington cruised two up through Eoin Linehan and Ross Anderson, Shaun Ward also missing a penalty.

In the second half, Scalby took a firm grip on the game and scored through Tommy Gray, Shaun Scales and an own goal.

Stefan Moon scored a brace as Newlands Park reserves beat Edgehill reserves 3-1. Ben Luntley also netted for Newlands, Lee Dennis replying.

Third division leaders West Pier reserves saw off Seamer reserves 4-0 with Kyle Spivey, Sam Garnett, Rob Speight and Dave Crawford the marksmen.

Second-placed Sleights had little trouble beating Scalby reserves 4-1 with goals from Jake Faichney (2), Ben Watson and Andy Martin. Danny Gregory got the consolation.

• Tonight (Wednesday), Scarborough & District League title-chasers West Pier play Thirsk Falcons in the final of the North Riding County FA Saturday Challenge Cup, at Stokesley (7.30pm).
