Personal best for Pickering Running Club member

PICKERING Running Club member Dave Ward clocked a personal best 10-mile time when taking part in the Snake Lane 10 in the flat countryside near Pocklington.

Ward made the most of the calm conditions to run one, hour 19 minutes, eight seconds, smashing his previous best by 63 seconds.

Tracey Gilbank, following her winter lay-off, clocked 1-25-00, while Marion Bets found the going tough with a time of 1-56-06.

Meanwhile, club-mate Mike Hetherton tried the Carnethy 5 Tops near Edinburgh. This fell race crams 720 metres of ascent over five hills into 10 kilometres, attracts the cream of the sport.

Hetherton was to act as pacer for long-time Scottish running companion Elaine Stewart but he was held up at a bottleneck early on, meaning he spent the rest of the race trying, and failing, to catch up with her. Hetherton clocked a respectable one hour 26 minutes.
