Simon Dyson rally before rain thwarts play
11:54am Saturday 2nd March 2013 in Sport
AFTER a rainstorm and the threat of lightning forced the suspension of play, York’s Simon Dyson was still waiting today to discover if he advanced to the business end of golf’s Tshwane Open.
Dyson fought back spiritedly from his dismal five-over opening round total.
The world number 83 was far more in command of the circuit at the Copperleaf Golf and Country Estate complex in South Africa.
With two holes still to complete before the elements waded in, he was three-under-par for the day as he and almost a quarter of the field were yet to reach the halfway mark of the European Tour competition.
He birdied holes two and three, added others on 11 and 15 with just one dropped shot suffered at the par four 13th.
Danny Willett, coached by Graham Walker at The Oaks GC, was joint sixth after a second 68 on the spin, while Harrogate GC’s Knaresborough-born John Parry improved his position with a 67.
