Rugby Union: Malton & Norton third team’s decent return

MALTON & Norton 3rds returned to action after a five-week break with a good 29-15 win over Scarborough’s third team, the Danesmen.

The game see-sawed early on as both sides tried to remember how to play. Malt had the better backs with wingers Jack Cranage and Matt Bell looking sharp, supported by Adam Daley at full-back. Centres Rob McFall and George Lumley linked well and Lumley popped over for a super try which Matty Williams converted.

Scarborough replied with three tries, either side of half-time, to lead 15-7 but Malton improved after the break.

Dan Smillie scored two tries and fellow sub Charlie Breese a fine solo effort – despite a hangover. Cranage and Will Smith had tries ruled out but captain Dave MacDowell burst over for one that stood.

Malton 3rds wore new new shirts courtesy of Pearson and Ward Solicitors of Malton.

• A number of Malton’s over-40s will play in a charity match in aid of Ryedale MS at Terrington School on Saturday, kick off 2pm.
