Football: Snainton loss opens title race

SECOND division leaders Snainton crashed 5-0 at Filey Town reserves in the Scarborough & District League – a result which opened up the title race.

The goals were scored by Stuart Dickens (2), Mark Dickens, Laylan Flynn and Scott Sheldon, the win lifting Filey into third place with games in hand on the two teams above them.

Falsgrave, in second place, won 5-0 at basement side Scalby thanks to goals by Richard Tolliday, Paul Brady, Mike Anderson, Nick Ellis and Dave Pearson.

Fourth-placed Rosette beat lowly Cayton Corinthians 3-0, with Jamie Wray, Tommy Blackburn and Simon MacDonald the marksmen.

Flixton are also in contention for second division honours after a 5-4 home win against Edgehill reserves.

Flixton cruised into a three-goal lead through Ian Laing (2) and Luke Chambers. Mike Cappleman pulled one back for Edgehill before half-time.

Flixton restored their three-goal advantage through Chambers’ second goal but Edgehill player-manager Martyn Ferrey, a second-half substitute, scored a brace to bring his side back into the game and John-Paul Watson equalised.

However, Laing completed his hat-trick to win the game for Flixton.

In the first division the only game played was a goalless draw between Seamer Sports and Hunmanby United.

Third division leaders West Pier reserves lost 3-1 at Ayton reserves thanks to strike by Mark Dove, a Scott Wardman own goal, and Paul Thornton – after Pier had taken a first-half lead.

Second-placed Sleights also lost, 3-2 at Westover Wasps reserves.

Athletico 2B won 8-0 at Cayton Corinthians reserves, and Falsgrave reserves beat Seamer Sports reserves 3-0.
