Angling: Richardson romps to victory at Raker Lakes
3:01pm Wednesday 20th February 2013 in Sport
BARRY RICHARDSON slaughtered the opposition at Raker Lakes on Sunday, putting a hefty 64lb 10oz on the scales from peg 15 on the High Bank.
Utilising the bomb with sweetcorn, he took a steady procession of carp to the 4lb mark.
Brian Pallister sat next to the winner and caught around 8lb of silver fish with pole and maggot before switching to the bomb and corn to top up with carp and boost his final tally to 31lb.
Artie Wilson led the way in Friday's Phoenix Angling Veterans match on the carp lake at Wykeham Fishery, putting 15lb 2oz on the scales at peg six. Alternating between the method feeder and ground bait feeder with maggot for bait, he netted four carp.
Martin Wallace secured second place with a little help from a 10lb common carp, which together with a few roach gave him a final score of 10lb 14oz.
Phil Roberts pulled off a good double, winning both the G B Angling Club and Westland's AC matches. He started the ball rolling on the middle lake at Westland's fishery, alternating between maggot, pellet and worm on the pole to take two F1 carp, two perch and a bonus 5lb carp, giving him 9lb 11oz at the final whistle.
Friday saw him back in action on the Folly Lake at Risby Park and, like the previous time, it was pole and maggot that did the damage, this time accounting for four small carp plus skimmers and roach to the 12oz mark to leave him well clear of the field with 13lb 8oz.
Malton & Norton Angling Club membership cards are now on sale at Fox's butchers, Malton, priced at £15 for seniors, £10 concessionary and £2 juniors.
