LEADERS Union ‘A’ achieved a crucial win over second-placed Derwent Arms ‘B’ in the Malton & Norton League – but it remains all to play for as Derwent are still only six points behind and could go top with a big win in their game in hand.
The sides traded frames through Jamie Barstow and Andy Clarkson before Union went 4-1 up through Mark Taylor, Richard Flynn 3-1 and Mark Falshaw to secure the match.
Barstow and Flynn made it four frames in a row with the first pairs contest before Mark Lund and Andy Clarkson replied in the final frame.
Third-placed Malton Cons beat Hyde Park ‘A’ 5-2 to open a 10-point cushion over Park in fourth.
Derwent Arms ‘A’ enjoyed a whitewash against Queens Head, while Royal Oak ‘A’ edged Bright Steels ‘A’ and Railway Tavern ‘A’ likewise won 4-3 at Union ‘B’.
Spotted Cow’s lead at the top of division ‘B’ has been cut from five points to four as they won 5-2 at Blacksmith Arms while second-placed Bright Steels ‘B’ beat Royal Oak ‘B’ 6-1.
Defending men’s pairs champions Steve Mills and Steve Pettit were among the duos to book their places in the semi-finals after last-eight victories.
