St Mary’s hit top form to thrash Wigginton Grasshoppers
10:06am Monday 11th February 2013 in Sport
The Ryedale side recorded their biggest away win since April 2008 thanks to hat-tricks from player-manager Darren Dunning and Tom Fenwick.
Fenwick, Dunning and Jon Newton scored in the first half, and Old Malton hit top gear after the break as Fenwick and Dunning completed their trebles and Dean Nuttall also got on the scoresheet.
Dave Pickles’ opening goal for Pop was cancelled out by an own goal, but the visitors went into the interval leading 3-1 courtesy of goals from Joe Dale and Jim Gledhill.
Dave Watson reduced the arrears for the hosts and Liam Stilgoe equalised for Dringhouses from the penalty spot.
A first home win of the season still eludes Selby RSSC after they lost 1-0 to visiting Rowntrees.
Chris Storey doubled the lead and Olly Bird wrapped up the scoring as Cop won 3-0.
Easingwold edged further away from the relegation zone as they collected their seventh point from three away games.
John Durrant put them in front in their 1-1 draw at York St John, but Josh Da Silva levelled for the students late in the game.
Only two games were scheduled in division one.
Haxby and Tockwith played out a goalless draw, while Malton & Norton consolidated their second position in the table with a 2-1 home win over Amotherby & Swinton. Chris Hodgson and Kingsley Daffern netted for the hosts, with George Moore replying for Amotherby.
