Football: Craig Farrell fires Whitby further up the standings

CRAIG FARRELL was again the hero as Whitby Town rose to 15th place in the Evo-Stik League premier division on Saturday after coming from behind to beat seventh-placed Worksop Town 2-1 at home.

Worksop took the lead when Ashley Burbeary scored with a penalty after 14 minutes after he had been brought down by Ibby Hassan.

But the Blues quickly recovered when Farrell, pictured left, equalised after 21 minutes following good work by Graeme Armstrong. Farrell then scored a second goal ten minutes before the interval to put Whitby into the lead.

The second half was end to end with both sides going close but Whitby were worthy of their victory, which came in front of a crowd of 249 and which completed their first double of the season, the reverse fixture having been won 1-0 in Nottinghamshire in October.

Former York City striker Farrell has now bagged 10 goals in seven games since joining the seaside club, a move which has coincided with their rise up the table.

This Saturday, Whitby go to Nantwich Town, who are one place and three points above them having played one more game.
