SNAINTON’S march towards promotion from division two of the Scarborough & District League gathered further momentum with a 6-1 home win over FC Rosette.
Paul Scott levelled James Wilson’s opener for Snainton to make it 1-1 at the break, but the hosts got well on top after the interval with goals from Leigh Watson (2), Liam Mintoft, Paul I’Anson and Lee Hodgson.
Second-placed Falsgrave dropped two points when they were held to a goalless draw by basement side Scalby.
Snainton now lead Falsgrave by six points although Falsgrave have three games in hand.
In division three, Athletico 2B enjoyed a shock 1-0 win at West Pier Reserves thanks to a Shaun Dodson header after 15 minutes.
Ayton Reserves had a great 4-2 win at Whitby RUFC.
They took a two-goal lead through a Mark Craven brace, before the home side pulled a goal back.
In the second half, Cory White was fouled in the area and Mark Dove converted the penalty, and player-manager Mark Plumpton tapped in Ayton's fourth before Whitby bagged a late second.
l Two sides from the Scarborough & District League first division, West Pier and Edgehill, reached the semi-finals of the North Riding County FA Saturday Challenge Cup after enjoying fine victories in difficult away ties.
Pier won 6-5 on penalties at University of York Amateurs after the game ended 2-2, Pier having taken a two-goal lead through Andy Sheader and Gareth Sygrove, only for the Uni side to level two minutes from time.
Edgehill won 2-0 at Bedale in a tight game thanks to two goals in the last five minutes from Alec Coulson, the first after fine work by Phil Warnett, and the second coming in stoppage time.
