Snooker: Dave Coulthard heads breaking news

THE latest round of Malton, Norton & District Snooker League matches produced some quality break building – Dave Coulthard topping the lot.

His Malton Cons ‘B’ outfit whitewashed Pickering Cons ‘D’, who had travelled a player short due to illness and then came up against some fine home performances.

Jordan Coulthard made a 24 break, Dan Williamson enjoyed a black ball win, Dave Cottle made a 34 break and Dave Coulthard then made a quality 69 in a doubles win before running out of position with the balls well set.

Malton Cons ‘A’ leapfrogged leaders Malton Cons ‘C’, who were not in action, to go top after drawing at Pickering Cons ‘C’.

John Ruston beat Ken Davison 51-64, Pete Scaife levelled by beating Dan Pawson 75-27. Geoff Walker put the hosts ahead with a 49-24 win over Bob Newton but it was level again as Steve Pawson carried on his winning run over Dave Dawson, 76-44.

The final singles frame brought the first league defeat this season for Steve Beal, 74-50 to Greg Gorman. But the visitors took the pairs.

Bright Steels won 5-1 at Pickering Cons 'A', taking all the singles with wins for Malc Piercy, Dave Burdett, Geoff Foxton, John Snowden and Ernie Burley – despite breaks of 22 by Dave King and 57 by Lee Taylor for Pickering. King and Taylor took the pairs with King having a 39 break.
