Table Tennis: Amotherby cut the gap in Ryedale League

AMOTHERBY ‘A’ cut Helmsley ‘A’s lead at the top of the Ryedale League to nine points last week, with two games in hand to boot, after a little help from their ‘B’ team.

Amotherby ‘A’ contributed to a miserable week for Swinton, thrashing them 9-1, while Helmsley could only draw 5-5 with Amotherby ‘B’.

Swinton also fell 6-4 at home to Coneysthorpe.

Division two leaders Malton were without a game and Amotherby ‘C’ took full advantage with a 10-0 victory over Hutton-le-Hole ‘B’, closing the deficit to five points.

Hutton-le-Hole ‘A’ team’s Chris Parker, inset, performed heroically to win all three games against Ryedale ‘F’ but Ryedale still consolidated their mid-table position with a 6-4 win.

Ryedale ‘E’ recovered from 5-0 draw to take a draw against Coneysthorpe ‘B’.

Division three leaders Amotherby ‘D’' continued their march to the title with another big win, this time beating the Drifters 9-1, Anthony Craven achieving the losers’ only point.

Ryedale ‘G’ also had a convincing win to consolidate third place, beating Amotherby ‘F’ 7-3, John Ellis winning all three for the Ryedale team, with the improving Lynda Scott taking two games for Amotherby.

Second-placed Helmsley ‘B’ beat Westow 6-4 in a close match, John Clayton winning three very close matches to gain two points for Westow.
