Pool: Close calls in quarter-finals
2:45pm Wednesday 30th January 2013 in Sport
THE semi-final line-up of the Malton & Norton League’s Team Knockout competition has been decided after a night in which three out of the four quarter-finals were won by a single frame.
The only exception was defending champions Derwent Arms ‘B’s 5-2 win against the only division ‘B’ side left in the competition, Bright Steels ‘B’.
Hyde Park ‘A’ progress to the next round with a 4-3 victory against Blue Ball ‘A’, while new team Malton Cons made their first semi-final with a similarly slender victory against Bright Steels ‘A’.
Last year’s runners-up, Union ‘A’, had a hard-fought final frame decider to edge out Derwent Arms ‘A’ to ensure they are in the hat for the next round draw.
In a rearranged division ‘B’ match, Malton Royal Oak ‘B’ entertained bottom-of-the-table Kings Head ‘B’ and enjoyed a decisive 6-1 win, which lifts the Oak side from ninth place into third in the table.
This coming Monday will see semi-final places decided in the mixed pairs competition.
