Snooker: Champions Malton ‘A’ losing their grip

REIGNING champions Malton ‘A’ suffered their sixth defeat of the season to slip 12 points off the pace in the York Conservative Clubs’ Carlsberg UK Snooker League after their latest outing.

The Ryedale side, who are sixth in the table, were beaten 4-3 at home by Fulford ‘A’, who moved off the bottom as a result.

Fulford stormed into a 4-1 lead thanks to wins by Sam Wass, Tom Wilson, Glen Mountain, who defeated the in-form Simon Weatherill, and Alan Reed. Lee Taylor got Malton on the board thanks to a 28 break.

Phil Hart (31 break) and Darren Pawson, who held off Tim Lister (28 break), won the last two frames for the hosts.

Weatherill’s 98 break is still the best of the season, while he has also had runs of 42 and 38, while Taylor boasts a 57 break.

Malton, who have six games remaining this season, are next in action on Wednesday, February 6 at leaders Acomb ‘A’.
