3:30pm Wednesday 23rd January 2013 in Sport
Malton Cons ‘C’ leapfrogged their ‘A’ team to take a one-point lead at the top of the Malton, Norton & District League after the latest round of matches.
Malton ‘C’ enjoyed a fine 5-1 win at Pickering Cons ‘D’ despite a rare defeat for Simon Weatherill, who lost the opening frame 79-58 on the blue to Matt Gardner.
Romaine Reeves, Dom Spiteri and Phil Hart put Malt clear, while Roger Ward had a walkover to make the points safe before Weatherill and Reeves took the pairs.
Malton Cons ‘A’ were staring at a first defeat of the season as they trailed 3-1 to third-placed Pickering Cons ‘A’ – before clawing back to nick a draw.
Dan Pawson scored for the hosts but Dave King, the impressive Lee Taylor, who had breaks of 27 and 25, and Paul Elgey won their frames for the visitors.
The unbeaten Steve Beal pulled a point back for Malt and Peter Woodall and Barry Elener fought back well to secure a shock win in the pairs against King and the in-form Taylor, who added a break of 38.
Bright Steels took advantage of the handicaps to beat Malton Cons ‘B’ 4-2, taking the first four frames.
Jordan Coulthard took a point for the visitors, who also won the pairs as John Dyson potted pink and black.
