Cricket: Heslerton 2nds on the rise
3:29pm Wednesday 23rd January 2013 in Sport
HESLERTON 2nds have risen from the Derwent Valley League into the Readers Scarborough Beckett League after a minor reshuffle in the competitions.
Derwent Valley champions Ebberston 2nds and runners-up Ravenscar have already been promoted, and Heslerton, who finished third, also now go up. This is because Hunmanby and Lockton have both dropped out of the Beckett League, in addition to Hospitals being relegated to the DV League.
The Derwent Valley League annual general meeting planned for last night (Tuesday) was also to hear that Whitby-based Mulgrave had applied for inclusion in the 2013 season, with the league committee recommending they go straight into division ‘A’.
If agreed at the meeting, the league will comprise 33 teams, with 10 each in divisions ‘A’ and ‘'B’ and 13 in division ‘C’, as listed.
Div ‘A’: Hospitals (relegated from Beckett League), Oriel, Forge Valley 3rds, Brompton 2nds, Fylingdales 2nds, Muston, Whitby 3rds, Great Habton (promoted), Sewerby 3rds (promoted), Mulgrave (new applicants).
Div ‘B’: Sherburn (relegated), Lockton, Flamborough 2nds, Flixton 3rds, Kirkbymoorside 2nds, Sewerby 4ths, Seamer 3rds, Bridlington 3rds, Wold Newton 2nds, Nawton Grange 2nds (promoted).
Div ‘C’: Snainton 2nds (relegated), Filey 2nds, Hunmanby, Cayton 3rds, Ravenscar 2nds, Ganton 2nds, Thornton-le-Dale 2nds, Valley Bar Nomads, Muston 2nds, Forge Valley 4ths, Scalby 3rds, Wykeham 3rds, Thornton-le-Dale 4ths.
The individual award winners in 2012 were also to be presented last night. They are listed.
Div ‘A’: Batting – John Bayes (Ravenscar, 329 runs); Bowling – Matthew Webster (Heslerton, 34 wickets); Catching – Jish Rewcroft (Ravenscar, 7 catches); Wicketkeeping – Ashley Winspear (Ebberston, 8 victims).
Div ‘B’: Batting – Andy Dixon (Flamborough, 597 runs); Bowling – Will Curtis (Great Habton, 30 wickets); Catching – Robin Richardson (Great Habton, 11 catches); Wicketkeeping – Ryan Bartram Snr (Sewerby CC).
Div ‘C’: Batting – Gary Wardell (Hunmanby, 419 runs); Bowling – George Bentley (Nawton Grange, 28 wickets); Catching – James Dunn (Nawton Grange, 8 catches); Wicketkeeping – Danny Thornton (Nawton Grange, 9 victims).
Meanwhile, the annual general meeting for the Andy Hire Scarborough Evening League is due to take place next Monday, at Scarborough CC’s North Marine Road pavilion, starting at 7.30pm.
That league has seen resignations from both Hunmanby teams, Ganton’s second team and Scalby’s third team, with no new applications. The knock-on effect sees only one team relegated from divisions ‘B’ and ‘C’.
The 2013 season will see eight teams in divisions ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’ and seven in division ‘D’, as listed. Teams in division ‘D’ will still play 14 games like in the other tiers – playing each other team home and away, and two teams three times.
Div ‘A’: Staxton ‘A’, Ebberston ‘A’, Flixton ‘A’, Cloughton ‘A’, Filey ‘A’, Wykeham ‘A’, Seamer ‘A’ (promoted), Cayton ‘A’ (promoted).
Div ‘B’: Scalby ‘A’ (relegated), Forge Valley ‘A’, Sherburn, Staxton ‘B’, Ganton ‘A’, Brompton ‘A’, Heslerton (promoted), Flixton ‘B’ (promoted).
Div ‘C’: Wykeham ‘B’ (relegated), Oriel ‘A’, Ebberston ‘B’, Filey ‘B’, Seamer ‘B’, Ravenscar, Scalby ‘B’ (promoted), Scarborough (promoted).
Div ‘D’: Snainton (relegated), Cayton ‘B’, Forge Valley ‘B’, Oriel ‘B’, Muston, Wykeham ‘C’, Cloughton ‘B’.
The Derwent Valley Junior League AGM will take place next Wednesday, January 30, at Forge Valley Cricket Club, starting at 7.30pm.
The league has had a number of new applications and resignations.
At under-15s level applications have come from Duncombe Park, Pickering ‘B’ and Seamer, although Cayton, Pickering U13s ‘A’ and Sewerby ‘B’ have joined Sherburn and Scalby ‘B’ in quitting the league.
