The remarkable La Estrella bids to break new ground tomorrow and add to his sensational record.

The star of Don Cantillon’s small Newmarket yard, the ten-year-old operates at a fairly lowly level, but has accumulated no fewer than 21 wins from 30 outings on all-weather tracks.

Southwell is his favourite. He is unbeaten there in 13 visits, while he has won seven from 11 at Wolverhampton.

At Lingfield, however, he has so far drawn a blank in two races.

Tomorrow, he gets a golden opportunity of making it third time lucky in the opening bluesq.com Claiming Stakes.

Winner of his last seven races, La Estrella gained his most recent victory in narrow style at Wolverhampton, but the horse he beat, Renegotiate, has since won in handicap company.

Cantillon, who has nursed La Estrella through various leg problems, describes the veteran as a “legend”. The popular old horse is assured of a warm reception if he can add to his tally and pay his first visit to the Lingfield winners’ circle.

Billy Red goes in search of quick compensation in the Breathe Spa At Lingfield Marriott Handicap.

John Jenkins’ sprinter failed by only a nose to beat Roy’s Legacy on this course a fortnight ago. He has every chance of going one better at a venue where he has scored in the past.

While Two No Bids showed enough promise on her debut to suggest she can make a bold show for John Hills and Seb Sanders in the Crowhurst Median Auction Maiden Stakes, Wakeup Little Suzy likewise makes appeal in the Blue Square Bet Maiden Fillies’ Stakes.

Trained by Marco Botti, whose horses are in tremendous form, the three-year-old finished fifth at Kempton on her debut three months ago. She will have learned plenty from that outing and this looks a good opportunity for her to open her account.

Newmarket-based Botti can also make his presence felt at Kempton where he has double prospects with California English and Al Gharrafa.

The latter, a daughter of Dutch Art, broke her maiden at her second attempt at Wolverhampton three weeks ago.

She has been granted an opening rating of 69 for the kempton.co.uk Handicap, which looks fair, especially as she is open to further improvement, and she carries the nap vote.

California English runs in the Betdaq (London Mile Qualifier) Handicap and will not be short of supporters after his latest Wolverhampton effort.

The four-year-old found only Beautiful Day too strong that day. He is a previous winner over this course and distance and is capable of running a big race in this one mile event.

Norton jockey Tom Eaves has made a good start to the year and he can add to his tally of winners aboard Vimiero, trained by Jonjo O’Neill, in the Time Ordered Cards In Racing Plus Handicap.

Although he has proved a difficult horse to win with for O’Neill, and previously with Walter Swinburn, Vimiero has finished second on his last two visits to Wolverhampton and failed by only a short head to beat Six Of Clubs on his most recent outing.

Derek Shaw has his team in good heart and Mataajir promises to go well for the trainer in the Betdaq Casino Games Handicap.

Martin Dwyer’s mount has finished in the frame on his last two outings at Wolverhampton, running solid races both times.

He looks capable of winning this low-grade event.
