Roy Brown is new assistant manager at Kirkbymoorside
3:44pm Wednesday 9th January 2013 in Sport
Kirkbymoorside have a new assistant manager in Roy Brown – father of current player Jonny.
Brown senior, who lives in Sinnington, played for West Auckland in the Northern League from 1974 to 84 and finished his career with Sinnington after moving there. He will be number two to player-boss Alex Strickland.
The club, lying fourth bottom of the Wearside League, are still seeking a chairman.
The Moorsiders were knocked out of the League Cup on Saturday as they fell 3-1 in the first round at mid-table Prudhoe Town.
Gaffes at the back proved costly in what was the Moorsiders’ first game since November 24 owing to postponements.
The contest was fairly even until Prudhoe took the lead following a corner after 20 minutes.
A defensive mix-up five minutes later between Moorsiders goalkeeper Marc Tansey and defender Lee Bannister gifted the Tynedale side a second goal.
Sarjo Cham and Jordan Rivis had good chances for the Moorsiders before half-time, and the second half saw an improved performance by Strickland's men.
However, a defensive error by Ali Holmes allowed Prudhoe to score their third goal.
Chris Rhodes appeared as a substitute on the hour mark for the Moorsiders and scored 10 minutes later following good work by Jonny Birbeck, Rivis and Cham.
Kirkbymoorside: Tansey, Kwami, Hodgson, Bannister (A Strickland), Holmes, Cham (C Campbell), Rivis, Okeahialam (Rhodes), James, Brown, Birbeck.
The Moorsiders return to league duty on Saturday when they entertain eighth-placed Cleator Moor Celtic (2pm).
• December Golden Goal draw winners: £1000 Edward Strickland, Kirkbymoorside; £100 Siobahn O'Leary, Gillamoor; £50 Carl Abbey, Kirkbymoorside; £25 Gus White, Pickering.
