FOUR-GOAL Lee Alexander was the chief destroyer as Union Rovers began 2013 by suffering their first defeat in the newitts.com Becket League campaign.

The division one leaders visited Gillamoor, who finished worthy 6-2 winners.

Alexander, the former Kirkbymoor-side and Pickering Town striker, scored his first competitive hat-trick for Gillamoor in the opening 20 minutes – his first goal a 25-yarder, his second an 18-yarder, his third a header from a Luke Tateson cross.

Union pulled a goal back when Ryan Cooper’s effort was deflected in but, as half-time approached, Gillamoor added two more goals, Alexander getting his fourth with a left-foot shot following a flick on by Craig Ibbotson, before Daryl Rivis netted.

Union did much better after the break against a tiring Gillamoor, with Cooper bagging a second goal, only for Tateson to restore Gills’ four-goal advantage.

Goalkeeper John Towse was Union’s man of the match despite the six hit.

Second-placed Rosedale had no trouble in beating Kirkdale United 7-0, man-of-the-match Sam Burns bagging a hat-trick.

Martin Foxton (2), Andy Kennedy and Jonathan Seller – whose first-minute goal following good work by Tom Bell set his side on the victory path – were the other marksmen.

Sinnington are third after a 6-0 home win against Norton United.

The Sinners made a flying start with five goals in the first half. David Wilkinson was another hat-trick man, with Wayne Moon (2) and man-of-the-match Toby Edwards – with his first goal for the club – also on target. John Gibbard was Norton’s top performer.

Duncombe Park jumped above Bagby & Balk after beating them 4-2.

Man-of-the-match Phil Marwood opened the scoring for Park and, although Bagby, who missed a few first-half chances, levelled through Andrew Parkinson five minutes after the break, an own goal after good work by David Wallinger and a Christian Ardisonne double put Park 4-1 up.

Danny Easton got a consolation at the end for Bagby, for whom Ollie Brooks stood out.

Man-of-the-match Steven Parker put visitors Heslerton in front at Thornton-le-Dale, but substitute John Peel equalised. Craig Sunley was Thornton’s star man.

Second-placed Union Rovers 2nds boosted their promotion challenge in division two by beating Gillamoor Reserves 2-0.

Gills rued missed chances as Phil Smith and Anthony Taylor netted in the last 15 minutes.

David McBurnie, for Union, and Craig Harrison, for Gillamoor, were the top performers.

Third-placed Snainton Reserves beat Pickering Knights 6-1 with goals by Richard Swiers, Ashley Hunt, Kevin Craig, Ross Triffett, Jack Holt and an own goal. Jack Connelly replied.

Jonathan Davies was Snainton’s man of the match, goalkeeper David Bointon the Knights’ star man despite the loss.

Heslerton Reserves beat Thornton-le-Dale Reserves 4-2 to rise to sixth, their highest position of the season, thanks to goals by Dan Blanchard, Peter Tiffany, birthday boy Mark Craig and Ian Miller. Tiffany, playing his first game of the season, was Heslerton’s man of the match. Stuart Hooton and Matt Simpson got Dale’s goals.

Aislaby United recorded their second win of the season, 3-0 at Rillington Reserves, aided by a man-of-the-match show by ’keeper Paul Entwistle.

The first half was tight until Richard Jenkinson opened the scoring after 30 minutes. Second-half goals followed from Simon Rouph and Kenny Temple. Aidan Smith was Rillington’s top player.
