Football: Filey Town rise to joint-top after thriller

Filey Town went joint-top of the Scarborough & District League first division in the after a 4-3 win at Eastfield St James.
A James Pinder double for Filey was countered by a Nick Hegarty brace for Eastfield. Will Hunter put Filey ahead for the third time with an unstoppable 35-yarder and Phil Dickens got their fourth goal with a penalty. Eastfield hit back through substitute Mark Barber but Filey held on.
Whitby Fishermen and Ryedale Sports Club drew 0-0 – both sides having had chances to score.
Second-division leaders Snainton won 3-1 at Scalby with goals by Leigh Watson, Josh Sands and Matthew Silk. Tom Walker replied.
Newlands Park Reserves rose into second place after beating Edgehill Reserves 6-1. The visitors took the lead through John Coulson but stormed clear through James Tadman, Stefan Moon (2), Sam Chambers and Lee Sutton (2).
Rillington Athletic lost 8-0 at first division Newlands Park in round two of the League Cup. Stuart Bates (3), Jordan Mintoft, Kile Fields, Ashley Townley, Josh Hakings and Kristian Johnson shared the plunder.
