As the racing fraternity digest the latest news that there will no further fixtures at Southwell this year because of flood damage, today’s planned meeting at the Nottinghamshire course has been transferred to Wolverhampton.

This means a longer journey for North Yorkshire horses, York Glory and Desert Creek, as they bid to continue their winning ways.

Nap selection York Glory, trained at Hambleton by Kevin Ryan, right, was a winner on Knavesmire at last year’s Ebor Festival. This season, he had run well in defeat, but had frustratingly found winning elusive until bouncing back to form at Lingfield last time when making all the runing to beat a competitive line-up.

Ryan has got him out again quickly under a penalty and is switching him back to the minimum distance from six furlongs in the 32Red Handicap. With Phil Makin again on board, York Glory can defy a 6lb penalty by showing a clean pair of heels to his rivals.

Desert Creek, trained by David Nicholls, is chasing a four-timer in the 32Red.com Handicap.

The gelding was successsful at Leicester in an amateur riders’ race and has since won twice for stable apprentice Shirley Teasdale at Doncaster and at Southwell, where he overcame a wide draw.

Desert Creek has an unfavourable starting berth again, but he is a pacey racer and Teasdale knows him well. Raised a further 5lb since Southwell, he may be able to keep ahead of the handicapper.

Red Eight makes plenty of appeal in the 32RedBingo.com Nursery. The juvenile made his all-weather debut at Kempton a fortnight ago and went down by only a nose.

The handicapper raised him 4lb for that improved display, but Red Eight looks like a horse who can pay his way on the Polytrack and he is fancied to open his winning account.

Few would surely begrudge Langham Lily a win in the 32RedBet.com Handicap. Chris Wall’s three-year-old has finished runner-up at Lingfield and on this course on her last two starts. She is overdue a win.

Malton apprentice George Chaloner should enjoy a good ride on Steel City Boy (1.10), a good fourth at Southwell last time, in the opening race, while Sandaura (2.10), who shaped nicely here on her debut recently, ought to go well for Clive Cox.

At tomorrow’s twilight meeting at Kempton, Malton jockey Freddie Tylicki is reunited with Bladewood Girl in the 32RedBet.com Handicap.

Tylicki got a good tune out of John Jenkins’ filly at Lingfield last time and produced her to win up the inside rail. She is only 3lb higher tomorrow which gives her a sterling chance to follow up.

Somemothersdohavem is awarded the nap vote and turns out under a penalty in the 32 Bonus Handicap over two miles.

Newmarket trainer John Ryan placed the gelding to win at Wolverhampton last week and although he later stressed everything has to fall perfectly into place for Somemothersdohavem to produce his best, the three-year-old is a previous winner over this course and distance. He promises to go well with Adam Kirby again booked for the ride.
