Snooker: ‘A’ team fight back in derby win

Malton Cons ‘A’ came from behind to edge their ‘B’ team in the first round of the Malton, Norton & District League’s Five Frame Trophy.

Andrew Sherry (21 break) put the ‘B’ side 35 points ahead when beating Peter Woodall in a great frame, Jordan Coulthard extended the lead to 46 points when beating Bob Newton 43-32, and ‘B’ team captain John Dyson beat his counterpart, John Ruston, on the black 57-56 in a very long frame.

However, the match turned when the in-form Steven Beal beat Don McFarlane 82-21 to give the ‘A’ team a 14-point aggregate advantage, and the final frame saw Dan Pawson slot the decisive pink against Dave Coulthard as the ‘A’ team won 301-278.

Malton Cons ‘C’ beat Bright Steels 391-288, Romane Reeves (20 break) and Simon Weatherill (2x40 breaks) standing out, while Mal Piercy and Dave Burdett did well for the losers.

Pickering Cons ‘C’ beat their ‘A’ team in a tense showdown decided on the final ball – league president Ken Davison potting it to knock out the favourites.
