Angling: Tony Mellor’s Primrose Valley magic

Tony Mellor took top spot for the second week running in the Contemptibles’ match at Primrose Valley Boating Lake.

This time, from peg eight on the dam wall, he netted pole and maggot-caught roach and skimmers weighing 12lb 14oz. Howard Pulford was second at peg 14 with 7lb 1oz.

Corner peg 30 came up trumps for Colin McNeil in the York midweek match on the Arc Lake at Redwood Park last Wednesday.

Fishing out at 13 metres with pole and pellet, he bagged a winning 44lb 8oz of carp.

Owen Brankin took second place off peg 27 with 39lb 6oz.

Brian Pallister led the way in last Tuesday’s G B Angling Club match at Raker Lakes, taking a net of 63lb 8oz off peg 19 on the Acorn Lake.

Utilising feeder tactic with sweetcorn for bait, he took carp to 6lb apiece. Colin McNeil secured second with 54lb 8oz from peg five.

Norton’s Phil Roberts won a close contest in Friday’s Westland’s AC match on the Little Tench lake, recording 25lb at the weigh-in. Drawn at peg eight and fishing banded pellet up in the water with the pole at 11 metres, he took F1 carp to the 1lb 8oz mark.

John Collier edged second with 20lb 4oz, from Brian Pallister with 19lb 14oz.

Malton & Norton AC fish round two of their winter league on the River Derwent this Sunday. The draw takes place at the Union Hotel, Norton, at 8.3am. For more information, phone Dave Dunning on 01653 697990.
