Music and dance, jiving and vintage car displays will bring the fun of the 40s to life at Grosmont Station throughout the weekend

IT all kicks off on Friday when Company B Theatre Group will be performing musical shows throughout the afternoon in the marquee at the entrance to Platform 2.

Meanwhile, there’s a 1940s car display in the car park, where Ken and Angela Harburn will also be caravanning, 1940s-style.

There will be more of the same all day on Saturday, and, to whet the appetite, there’s a soup kitchen serving soup and roll and tea and doughnuts at the top of the passenger ramp from the car park, where there’ll also be a cake and tart stall and vintage lemonades for sale.

To take you right back to the spirit of wartime Britain, there’s an Anderson shelter display by John Girling on Platform 2, plus an air raid shelter and police station.

On Saturday afternoon, Jive Mood with Paul and Sue entertain on Platform 3, and all are welcome to come along and join in. Meanwhile, there’s a Second World War Tigermoth Aircraft display and flyover at 2.30pm.

Sunday will feature more dancing and musical shows featuring Jive Mood and Company B Theatre Group, and Bishop Auckland and District Pipe and Drums, led by Pipe Major John Atkinson-Millmoor, will perform throughout the day, with their first performance at 10am on Platform 3.

There’ll also be 1940s military and civilian vehicles on display in the station car park.

On Sunday afternoon are a remembrance parade, drum head service and wreath laying ceremony at 1pm; veterans and re-enactors will be mustering at 12.30pm in station car park. The poppy wreath will be laid by Brian Carter of Grosmont Station Group. A lone piper will play a lament, and at 2pm a Second World War Tigermoth will provide a flyover.

Following the parade, Company B Theatre Group will present variety shows in the marquee, Jive Mood will be dancing on Platform 3 while Bishop Auckland Pipes and Drums play a finale on Platform 3. All displays and stalls will remain open throughout.
