Pickering Showground is entering into the wartime spirit for the first time this year, with stalls, entertainment, and a shuttle bus to town
VINTAGE and militaria trade stalls, food vendors and a period-style tea room will vie for attention among living history displays, fashion shows and entertainment from Mickey Ramsbottom and the Alka Seltzer Sisters and a pipe and drum band, while a children’s funfair, Spitfire simulator and miniature tank rides will keep old and young amused throughout the weekend.
Battles will take place between Axis and Allied troops on Saturday and Sunday at 2pm and 3pm, while on Sunday there are three theatre performances called Dodging the Doodlebugs at 11.30am and 1pm.
A park and ride service is available from the Showground, costing £5 car/£1 per person for coaches and minibuses, for all-day parking, which includes bus travel. Shuttle buses will run continually throughout the event, with the first one leaving 45 minutes before the first train and the last one 30 minutes after the last train is due in. However, in the case of delays, it will wait for passengers.
