HERE'S your WI reports from Ryedale.

Sinnington - The June meeting was opened by the president Helen Browes and the members and guests welcomed Pam Fowler whose fascinating illustrated talk on “The History of Plant Medicine” gave members a glimpse into the secrets and origins of medicine derived from plants dating from Aristotle to the 20th She and her husband have run the chemist shop, a family business, in Kirkbymoorside for 25 years. There was a birthday cake and bubbly to celebrate Molly Scaling’s 90th birthday. She joined the WI when she was only 14 and as a past president at Sinnington, Molly says the WI has been a source of great friendships over the years. Molly delivers Sinnington’s village newsletter every month, whatever the weather and hasn’t missed once since it was launched for the Millennium 16 years ago. She celebrated her birthday with her four sons, grandchildren and extended family. The July talk is Yorkshire Dialect by Adam Collier. Join members from 7pm on the second Thursday of the month in the village hall.

Pickering - The last meeting was held on Tuesday, June 14, and president Sandy Frow opened the meeting with a minute's silence and the singing of Jerusalem in memory of one of the group's members, Lorraine Adey, who died away recently. Condolences from all members go to her family. The cinema and book club continue to be popular and are open to new and old members alike. The speaker for the evening was Janet Pearson from Strawberry Fields at Sinnington. She gave a talk about the strawberry business and treated the group to homemade scones and jam, plus, of course, fresh strawberries. She ran a quiz about strawberries for which two members won a cram tea at Strawberry Fields. The next meeting is a members' garden meeting and will be on Tuesday, July 12, starting at the earlier time of 6.30pm. New members wishing to attend should phone 01751 476506.
