Kirkbymoorside – Members met on Monday, June 6 in the Methodist Rooms when president Chris Martin introduced Craig Farnon from Scampston Hall, who spoke about life as a modern butler. He wore his butler outfit and impressed everyone with his quiet efficiency and pleasant manner. The competition, a napkin ring, was won by Pam Walsh, with Molly Stephens second and Angela Prout third. Birthday posies, made by Jan Tattersall, were presented to Ruth Lomas, Kathy Evans and Christine Field. The meeting was attended by 23 members and three visitors. The next meeting is at 7.15pm on Monday, July 4 when Julie Ryan will talk her work with International Rescue, which responds to disasters anywhere in the world. Members are also looking forward to their August Garden Party. If anyone wants any information about the branch, phone Chris on 01751 431572. New members are always welcome.

Marton & Normanby – Members visited the stonemasons’ yard at York Minster on Wednesday, June 1. They were met by guide Paul Greene, who is superintendent of works. The museum of old stone artifacts was visited, and members met working masons and draughts people who are now working on the restoration of the southface, now that the east side has been completed, a task which took 12 years to finish. The next outing which will be to the birds of prey at Duncombe Park on Wednesday, July 6. Please note the 4pm start.

Welburn and Bulmer - Members, guests and friends from the North Yorkshire East Federation, local WIs and villagers from Welburn and Bulmer were welcomed to the 90th anniversary tea on Wednesday, June 8 by the president, Yvonne Myers. On display was a table, arranged by members, showing everything people associate with the WI – flowers, knitting, sewing, painting, jam, cakes, cards and also scrapbooks showing activities over a number of years. After tea and speeches, Yvonne cut the birthday cake which she had made and had been decorated by her son. The tea was enjoyed by 53 members and friends. A vote of thanks was made to all that made the day a success and especially the two men who washed up and took photographs. The Welburn and Bulmer branch is still going strong after 90 years and new members are always welcome.
