FOUR artists are currently transformin g the Ryedale Gallery at Hutton-le-Hole into a studio space where work featuring video, mixed media painting and sound installation are being created.

Open Season is the first event in the 2008 arts programme at the gallery which is curated by Andy Dalton.

He said: "Open Season is intended to offer artists an opportunity to develop new, innovative and challenging work in public. The artists have an open-ended remit to challenge themselves and our audiences by making new work in public. During the six-week residency the project will offer visitors the chance to meet the artists and join in the making of new works. It's all about removing the perceived distance between Art' and everyday life."

Lyn Wait is in residency until March 29 and is examining issues surrounding migrants to the Ryedale area through a sound installation.

She said: "I intend to develop a sound piece using fragments of familiar English stories recorded by migrants to North Yorkshire. Through this I want to explore our responses to the impact of migration by inviting visitors to add to the soundscape in their own language."
