THE NFU appears to be promoting a cull of British wildlife, ie badgers.
This is unfair to their members and not a true representation of facts.
If the NFU was to truly represent all members it would state that a cull of badgers will decrease the incidence of bovine TB in cattle by only 12-16 per cent.
Therefore, some farmers will still experience a cull of cattle, despite hundreds of healthy, TB-free badgers being killed.
The greatest fall in bovine TB in cattle was during the period of footand- mouth when very strict regulations regarding cattle movement had to be adhered to. As in Scotland, which is recognised by the EU as TB free, again due to strict regulations regarding movement of cattle.
The NFU should present all facts and let the science speak to their members which rules out a cull of badgers.
