Bulb theory query

FARNDALE is just at its most beautiful, with spring bursting forth, and the daffodils adding their glorious colour at this time of year.

It is a local spectacle that needs to be seen regularly for us locals to realise how lucky we are to have it on our doorstep.

Would any Gazette readers know the reason for the proliferation and the original establishment of what is in fact an indigenous species of bulb flower to England, especially the North York Moors?

The bulbs being native to Northern Spain, it begs the question how did they arrive in Farndale? A local theory is that the monks from Rievaulx brought the bulbs to England and spread them to Farndale. Could anyone offer a more likely theory?

Not too sure about the daffodils around Farndale, but in case anybody was wondering about the daffodils along the approach roads into Malton then go to: http://www.communiga
