Provide a facility for our teenagers in Kirkbymoorside

I FEEL I must both agree and disagree with the letter from R Partington (What Kirkbymoorside Needs, July 7).

I strongly agree that spending such a ridiculous amount of money on converting the Old Library into offices and a meeting place is, frankly, greedy and fanciful. The empty community office and indeed the offices they hold at the moment should be adequate.

I believe it is time our youngsters/teenagers – our future – should be recognised. Facilities for young people in Kirkbymoorside are seriously lacking.

I appreciate we have a skate park, but not all teenagers skate.

Incidentally, even that has been blasted by local residents as the children were making too much noise.

I agree a youth centre would be fantastic, a place to have refreshments and get together, in a safe and supervised environment.

Maybe the youngsters can come up with some ideas for the town council on how to make our town and its future more teenage-friendly.

I think the two charity shops that operate in Kirkby are providing a fantastic service for both the charities they support and for the local residents and tourists. Personally, I was more concerned that the soonto- be-vacant antiques shop may become yet another hairdressers.

Finally, residents have done without a bus shelter for years. In the beginning I was quite excited about the prospect, but as nobody can agree, as usual, I think we should probably forget that idea and focus on something else, like the youngsters perhaps.

S CURTIS, Kirkbymoorside
